On 25 November 2015, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, The Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Ms. Dubravka Šimonovi? called on all States to establish a “femicide watch”, or a “gender-related killing of women” watch.

In her most recent report to the General Assembly (A/71/398, available here), the Special rapporteur further elaborated modalities for establishment of the femicide watch and/or observatory as an interdisciplinary panel of experts that collect and analyze data on femicides with the aims of prevention of such cases.

The Special Rapporteur seeks to collect existing good practices on data collection and prevention of femicides. In order to inform her work on the topic, and with view of creating a global online database, the Special Rapporteur wishes to secure from different stakeholders, including States, National Human Rights Institutions, Non-governmental organizations, as well as members of academia, input and views on the following topics:

-       Existing legislative models or operational guides for the investigation of gender-related killings of women;

-       Existing good practices regarding collection of data on femicides or gender related killings of women;

-       Landmark jurisprudence from international, regional, and national courts, on gender-related killings of women.

N.B. Please note that the working languages of the Secretariat are English, French and Spanish. You are therefore kindly requested to provide your submissions in one of these languages.

All submissions should be sent by 1 March 2017 to vaw@ohchr.org.

SVRI is delighted to invite you to submit abstracts, attend and register for the largest world-wide conference dedicated to research on prevention and response to sexual and intimate partner violence - SVRI’s 5th global conference - SVRI Forum 2017.

Please submit your abstract for an oral or poster presentation on/before the 1 February 2017 on our website www.svri.org/forums/forum2017.  All submissions will be acknowledged promptly. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within one week, please contact the Mandy Salomo at mandy.salomo@mrc.ac.za , so that we can verify if your submission has been received.

All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by two members of the abstract review committee.

SVRI is seeking abstracts on:

• sexual violence;
• intimate partner violence;
• child abuse and neglect;
• HIV and SGBV;
• Feminist work with men and boys;
• Femicide
• (Commercial) Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (CSECA and SECA)
• children and adolescents - violence prevention and response;
• sexual trafficking;
• sexual abuse and violence in institutional settings;
• marginalized populations, including women with disabilities, LGBTI, sex workers, migrants, refugees; internally displaced populations, and indigenous populations
• new forms of gender-based violence including cyber bullying, cyber stalking and secondary victimization;
• impacts of violence against women and violence against children on mental health;
• use of technology to prevent and respond to sexual and intimate partner violence and child abuse and exploitation.

SVRI also invite colleagues to submit applications for pre-conference workshops for building capacity in the field.
