Call for abstracts - SVRI Forum

SVRI is delighted to invite you to submit abstracts, attend and register for the largest world-wide conference dedicated to research on prevention and response to sexual and intimate partner violence - SVRI’s 5th global conference - SVRI Forum 2017.

Please submit your abstract for an oral or poster presentation on/before the 1 February 2017 on our website www.svri.org/forums/forum2017.  All submissions will be acknowledged promptly. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within one week, please contact the Mandy Salomo at mandy.salomo@mrc.ac.za , so that we can verify if your submission has been received.

All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by two members of the abstract review committee.

SVRI is seeking abstracts on:

  • sexual violence;
  • intimate partner violence;
  • child abuse and neglect;
  • HIV and SGBV;
  • Feminist work with men and boys;
  • Femicide
  • (Commercial) Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (CSECA and SECA)
  • children and adolescents - violence prevention and response;
  • sexual trafficking;
  • sexual abuse and violence in institutional settings;
  • marginalized populations, including women with disabilities, LGBTI, sex workers, migrants, refugees; internally displaced populations, and indigenous populations
  • new forms of gender-based violence including cyber bullying, cyber stalking and secondary victimization;
  • impacts of violence against women and violence against children on mental health;
  • use of technology to prevent and respond to sexual and intimate partner violence and child abuse and exploitation.

SVRI also invite colleagues to submit applications for pre-conference workshops for building capacity in the field.

Global fund for women - Funding opportunity: Initiative to end gender-based violence in the garment industry

Global Fund for Women invites organizations seeking to scale innovative strategies and successful interventions to apply for funding. They intend to fund organizations and coalitions (organizations working together to increase potential impact through their collaborative efforts) working to ensure that women workers are free from sexual harassment and sexual violence in places where they work and live.

Two slots left for the SASA! Faith course (06-10th March 2017) Uganda

SASA! Faith Course: Are you looking for ways to strengthen your engagement with a faith community (Muslim and Christian) to prevent violence against women and HIV?  Raising Voices and Trocaire are pleased to let you know that there are only 02 slots left for the upcoming SASA! Faith course scheduled to take place in Kampala-Uganda in March 06th-10th, 2017. This course will be the first of the four SASA! Faith course series that correspond to the four phases of SASA! Faith.

SASA! Faith is meant to inspire, enable and structure effective community mobilization to prevent violence against women and HIV in a faith community and as such, it will require organizational time, commitment and resources including; 2-3 years of SASA! Faith implementation, a commitment to completing all four phases, a team of determined SASA! Faith champions and, dedicated financial resources for positive and sustained change to be realized.

Webinar - Our Gender Revolution: Youth Leaders in Action - 16th February

On this webinar, presenters from the Idaho Coalition will highlight the 2017 We Choose All of Us campaign for National Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Month that directly addresses the current climate of hate and violence in our schools and communities as a model for promoting youth-driven activism for social transformation.

Short course: Researching gender-based violence: Methods and meaning, 13 -17 February 2017, London

This course aims to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills to conduct or commission technically rigorous, ethical and policy- and service-relevant research on various forms of violence against women.

The course is intended for individuals who will conduct or commission research on gender-based violence. It will be of particular interest to those who want to add a ‘violence component’ to study that is quantitative or qualitative study or an intervention evaluation. It is relevant for individuals working on health-related topics such as, sexual and reproductive health, maternal health, HIV, mental health and substance use.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL: Making the Connection between Child Marriage and SGBV, HIV/AIDS and Education

The Regional Fund on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is providing grants to organisations proposing innovative ways to address the inter-sectionality between child marriage and one or more of the following three topics: Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, HIV/AIDS and education at the national level that have the potential for scale up to the regional level.

The maximum funding available per proposal is $US 15,000.

They are seeking proposals that put forward approaches and activites that can include:
• research to gather, document and share evidence,
• pilot testing programs that seek to strengthen intersectional programming with one or more of the three topics,
• developing and implementing initiatives to improve the situation of child brides and adolescent girls vulnerable to marriage connected to one or more of the three topics; and
• advocacy efforts that seek to change/implement policies or programs at the national level related to one or more of the three topics that will have an impact on child marriage.
