Day(s): from 20/Oct to 01/Mar

On 25 November 2015, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, The Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Ms. Dubravka Šimonovi? called on all States to establish a “femicide watch”, or a “gender-related killing of women” watch.

In her most recent report to the General Assembly (A/71/398, available here), the Special rapporteur further elaborated modalities for establishment of the femicide watch and/or observatory as an interdisciplinary panel of experts that collect and analyze data on femicides with the aims of prevention of such cases.

The Special Rapporteur seeks to collect existing good practices on data collection and prevention of femicides. In order to inform her work on the topic, and with view of creating a global online database, the Special Rapporteur wishes to secure from different stakeholders, including States, National Human Rights Institutions, Non-governmental organizations, as well as members of academia, input and views on the following topics:

-       Existing legislative models or operational guides for the investigation of gender-related killings of women;

-       Existing good practices regarding collection of data on femicides or gender related killings of women;

-       Landmark jurisprudence from international, regional, and national courts, on gender-related killings of women.

N.B. Please note that the working languages of the Secretariat are English, French and Spanish. You are therefore kindly requested to provide your submissions in one of these languages.

“Movements, Borders, Rights? Feminist Perspectives on global Issues in Europe” WIDE+ and EWL International Conference, 24-25 October, 2016, Brussels.

Day(s): from 24/Oct to 25/Aug

This two-day international conference will develop a consistent feminist analysis on these global developments faced by Europe. Panels and workshops will explore the ways in which social justice, gender equality and women’s rights are affected, sacrificed or squeezed.

The conference will be a space for civil society, women’s rights experts, activists and policy makers to deepen and broaden their understanding of the current situation in Europe from a feminist perspective in an international exchange with women’s human rights activists from the Global South who have been dealing with similar challenges for a long time. The conference will also start a process of building momentum toward constructive criticism and joint political action beyond the conference, through encouraging constituencies and potential allies to take on board feminist perspectives in their future activities and agendas.

Solving the Campus Sexual Assault and Dating Violence Puzzle Conference 2016

Day(s): from 12/Dec to 13/Oct

Campuses nationally are continuing to work hard to meet and exceed federal requirements around response and prevention measures for sexual and dating violence and stalking. While campuses are working to address the expectations of Title IX and the Clery Act, including the most recent amendments to the Clery Act (Campus SaVE), many have already developed effective programs. This year’s conference seeks to highlight those effective programs while also going beyond compliance, working to establish intersectional and trauma-informed advocacy, prevention, and investigation.

This conference is intended to create a thoughtful and intentional space for campuses and community agencies to showcase their programs, and work together to solve the challenging puzzle of responding to and preventing all forms of sexual and dating violence on college campuses.
