This resource, by CICSCA and UNIFEM, responds to the need for local governments and womens' organizations to understand the aspects and variables involved in violence against women (VAW) in cities, mechanisms perpetuating its social invisibility, international conventions and instruments condemning VAW and committing local governments and society to act towards the eradication of this violence. The tools use case studies and policy guidance based on the Safe Cities program in Argentina and Peru, as well as experiences from Canada and elsewhere, to provide criteria for incorporating gender-based violence in urban security policies, with public space interventions as an instrument to promote safe cities. Available in English, Portuguese and Spanish; 86 pages.
